Bilstein-Marathon practical information for walkers
The event takes place in the Kaufunger Wald region around the Bilstein and uses forest and hill trails with many elevation changes. The terrain is clearly not flat and suits hikers who expect steep sections, viewpoints and varied forest tracks. Routes are marked throughout so navigation is straightforward for walkers. The organiser also recommends loading the GPS track to a watch for those who prefer it.
Distances offered include:
- 12 km route on marked forest trails
- 21 km route with mixed uphill and downhill sections
- 42 km marathon distance on demanding terrain
- 57 km long trail with significant elevation changes
- 100 km ultratrail along extensive hilly tracks
There are aid stations on the course, with at least a VP 2 mentioned, useful for food and drink while walking. The event keeps the fields small with a total limit of 650 starters to maintain a familiar atmosphere. The setting provides scenic viewpoints and compact but challenging hiking sections; running is offered as part of the event but the information above highlights what walkers can expect.
