FIRA Festival de la Randonnée en Cévennes : walking description
FIRA proposes guided walking programs based in Saint Jean du Gard, in the Cévennes, with some activities extended into the Camargue. Walks are offered for varied levels, from short local rambles to longer itinerant routes. Accompanying guides are volunteers or staff from local tourist offices and can propose themed routes such as history, agropastoral practices or walks with donkeys.
Practical arrangements for walkers include organised lunch halts with local restaurateurs serving regional products. Some routes are presented as itinerant stages, allowing multi-day progression through the Cévennes landscape. Trails cross typical Cévennes terrain and cultural sites; themes may focus on local heritage and pastoral landscapes.
Other outdoor activities (canoe, VTT, spéléo, canyoning) are available through the festival but are separate from the guided walking programmes. Walks are managed by the festival association affiliated with national walking organisations and rely on local partners for logistics and interpretation. Information about specific routes, daily distance and elevation is given in the activity descriptions and varies by walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
