Fjoertoer Terschelling : practical walking information
The Fjoertoer is an evening and night walking event on Terschelling that guides participants along illuminated fire beacons toward the Brandaris. Routes run through island polder, forest, dunes and along the beach. Paths are not all paved and some sections cross sand and may contain tree roots or trunks. Walkers are advised to bring extra lighting if they feel unsure in the dark.
Distances offered:
- 12 km
- 17 km
- 22 km
The official start location for all distances is in Midsland and the finish is by the Brandaris on West. Participants receive a stempelkaart, keycord and a cap with an LED lamp; the lamp is needed so reflective route arrows are visible. Materials can be collected on the Torenplein under the Brandaris before the event on presentation of a QR-code.
Groups of about 300 walkers start at intervals. Shuttle buses run on the Hoofdweg to bring walkers to the Midsland start and return buses run from the Veerhaven after the finish. The event is for people aged 16 and older. Dogs, bicycles and sound equipment are not allowed. Carrying a mobile phone is recommended for safety and contact.
