Harzquerung : walking information
The event offers long-distance guided walking across the Harz region with marked trails and several support points. Walkers can choose between these distances:
- 53 km
- 30 km
- 26 km
Starts are at Wernigerode (for 53 km and 26 km) and Benneckenstein (for 30 km). The route is waymarked with red/white tape, spray chalk and directional signs and passes named points such as Königshütte, Sophienhof, Poppenberg and Neustadt. There are multiple staffed supply points offering drinks, fruit, bread and small snacks; locations are given as approximate kilometre markers along the route. A single piece of luggage per starter can be checked in at the listed handover points before the walk and reclaimed at the finish against the start number. Toilets and showers are available at start and finish areas and at some supply points. Walking poles are allowed. Dogs may start but must be kept at the rear and wear a muzzle in start, finish and buses. Electronic timing is for runners only; walkers are not timed but must observe the organiser’s time limits and an indicated minimum pace of about 4.5 km/h to reach cutoffs. Transport options and limited paid return bus seats are available but not guaranteed for late entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
