Hermannslauf : walking details
The event is a single long walk of 31,1 km from the Hermannsdenkmal to the finish in Bielefeld, following trails through the Teutoburger Wald. The start is located close to the Hermannsdenkmal; walkers are assigned to the designated walking start group. Walkers may use organised bus shuttles from Bielefeld or Detmold to reach the start. There is gross timekeeping for walkers, so the recorded time includes the entire period from leaving the start area to arrival at the finish.
Practical arrangements for walkers include a clothes-bag service: packed bags are accepted at the assembly area near the Bismarckstein for transport to Bielefeld. Start numbers and event documentation can be collected in Bielefeld at the designated distribution points before the event; a postal delivery option for start materials is offered within Germany when booked during registration. The minimum age for participation in the walk is 18 years. Dogs and baby joggers are not permitted on the course for safety reasons.
