Kemmelberg Trail : walking details
The event is based in the centre of Kemmel; start, finish and secretariat are at Dries, 8956 Heuvelland. Routes are mainly off‑road, clearly marked with large fluorescent orange signs and downloadable GPX files are available a few days before the event. The terrain is hilly with notable elevation gain on each route; the Kemmelberg and other local hills feature on all courses.
Practical walking information:
- 50 km with 1083 m positive elevation and 3 on-route aid stations plus finish aid
- 35 km with 770 m positive elevation and 3 on-route aid stations plus finish aid
- 21 km with 440 m positive elevation and 2 on-route aid stations plus finish aid
- 12 km with 300 m positive elevation and 1 on-route aid station plus finish aid
Walkers can use designated parkings near the start; parking in the centre is forbidden. There is bag storage in the large tent. Aid stations offer water, sports drink, cola, fruit, cake, sandwiches and more; disposable plastic cups are not provided, so walkers must bring a personal cup or bottle (eco-cups are available to buy). Routes are described as little technical but hilly; maps and elevation profiles are available through the event’s GPX downloads and app. A separate Kemmelberg Wine Walk has walkers departing after the runners to enjoy the landscape at a calmer pace.
