Legends Trail practical walking information
Legends Trail is a long winter trail across the Belgian Ardennes covering 350 km. The route is non-marked and walkers must navigate using the GPX course file and a GPS device. The terrain is hard and variable in winter with sustained climbs, mud and possible cold, rain, wind or snow, so walkers should expect demanding off-road surfaces.
The event uses a central Race Headquarters at the Collège St. Roch in Bernardfagne for registration and the finish. Parking is available at the HQ. Participants must register at HQ before the event.
There are 5 checkpoints along the route. Each checkpoint provides hot home-made meals (with vegan and gluten-free options), water, drinks, snacks, and volunteer support. Sleeping inside checkpoints is prohibited; participants must sleep outside using their own sleeping system carried or placed in a drop bag. One drop bag (max 20 kg) is transported to each checkpoint and returned to the finish; collect it within two hours after finishing.
A GPS tracker is provided and must remain attached externally; it includes an SOS button for emergency extraction. Medical teams are stationed during the race but medics may take time to reach remote locations. Mandatory kit includes a charged phone, 1.5 litres minimum water capacity, waterproof jacket and trousers, headlamp with spare batteries, survival bag, suitable shoes, ID, and a sleeping system.
