Megamarsch Rügen : practical info for walkers
The event is a long-distance walking challenge of 100 km to be completed within 24 hours on the island of Rügen. The route starts on the Strandpromenade in 18546 Sassnitz and finishes at the same location for the full distance. There is an official intermediate finish at 50 km, where walkers who stop receive a 50 km finisher medal.
Terrain and surroundings include coastal paths, beaches, cliffs and forests, with sections passing the island’s chalk cliffs and open shoreline. The total ascent is about 760 metres. The organiser provides route files and a GPX download for navigation.
Support and checkpoints are planned as follows:
- 50 km: 2 refreshment stations along the course
- 100 km: 4 refreshment stations and one official 50 km intermediate point
Practical notes for walkers: starts are available from 09:00 onwards and station opening times are calculated from average speeds of 4.2–6 km/h. Participants receive a walking pass with stamps at start and finish and a certificate from the second refreshment station. The route may be adjusted shortly before the event for local conditions.
