Two-day walking and camping trip on Texel
Om't Eiland is a fully organized two-day recreational walking and camping event around the island of Texel. The route is approximately 60 km in total and is partially based on the existing Nivon Texelpad. Participants explore a variety of landscapes, including forests, dunes, beaches, the Slufter nature reserve, and polders behind the dikes.
Route details and logistics
The distance is divided over two days:
- Day one: 32 km
- Day two: 28 km
The walk starts at the ferry port of Texel on the first day. The route follows the eastern side along the dike, passing through Oudeschild and Oosterend toward De Cocksdorp. The second day leads from the overnight location toward the Slufter, through the woods of De Koog, along the beach, and through dunes toward Den Hoorn. The final stretch of 4 km leads back to the ferry port.
Accommodation and facilities
Participants stay overnight in their own tents at a five-star campsite. The organization provides baggage transport from the ferry port to the campsite on Saturday and back to the finish on Sunday. The registration fee includes a walking map, luggage transport, coffee, tea, a camping pitch, a warm meal on Saturday evening, and breakfast and a packed lunch on Sunday. A memento is provided at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
